Melissa Faubush – I am a daughter, a sister, a friend, and an educator, but most of all, I am a mother and a grandmother. My children have always been my motivation to keep going. Now my grandchildren have joined in keeping me motivated. I have always wanted to be an author. I don’t know if it is because I have always found books to be a safe haven for me or if it is just that I have stories to tell. I have written poetry, I’m working on a couple of novels, and I have written this children’s story. My inspiration came from a picture and a story I always heard about my brother Tommy and the turkey that followed him around. I hope you enjoy reading about Tommy and his pet turkey with your students, children, grandchildren, and anyone else you are fortunate enough to share this story with.

This is such a sweet story!! Tommy's expressions in the pictures are so funny, especially when he's imagining all the different pets. My daughter (almost 4) keeps asking if WE can get a surprise pet now 😅

Nice addition to our bookshelf. The story is simple but engaging. My son relates to Tommy waiting for his dad to come home. Only complaint is I wish it was a bit longer but that's just me being picky

Ordered this for my granddaughter and she made her mom video call me so I could "see the surprise pet" when they finished reading it. Absolutely precious. The pictures are colorful and the story has a great message about expectations vs reality
